Preparations are under way.

Our open day for Amnesty International Ireland is drawing closer and there are many things to prepare and finalise.

Early June 032

This week we washed, scrubbed and dried over one hundred cups from various charity shops to use in our pop up cafe on the day.

We have been busy cutting out and preparing all the Amnestea cake toppers that will decorate the baked goods and we tried them out on some Cinnamon and Apple muffins this week in a hope that when you see the pictures, you are going to want to come and try some on the day. Is it working?

Our willow dome will, weather permitting be used as part of the café on the day and yesterday we decorated it and took a few photos with some of the lovely Amnestea bunting we have been cutting out and assembling.  We are hoping for sunshine and blue skies on the 15th of July so that people can come and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee under the leafy green ceiling.

If we get rain and grey skies, we also have a large marquee to go up, and a conservatory, so there will still be somewhere dry to sit in any case.

Our berries are coming on beautifully this year and we are hoping Raspberries, Black currants and Gooseberries will all be ready for picking on the day.  You will be able to buy a paper cup and fill it with berries to bring home and all the proceeds will go to Amnesty. We have been busy making a sign for it.

We thought it would be good to include the practicalities here, if you are thinking of visiting us on the day. This is the same text that is on the event posters we will put up around the local area in the coming weeks.

We use interesting and unusual building techniques with many recycled materials and can give you tips and inspiration for your own projects.

There are still many things to do but we think it is shaping up to be a beautiful day, shared with friends old and new. We believe Amnesty’s work is more important than ever in today’s world and we are proud to do our little bit in supporting them.
