It is getting close to the time of year when we usually open our garden to the public. For the last two years we have enjoyed having many visitors and collecting money for Amnesty International Ireland. This year we were considering not opening the garden as we have to do a lot of building work while the weather is warm. But over the last few months there has been a lot of interest and questions about it and we decided to open the garden anyway.
This year we are leaving larger areas of the land wilder than before to encourage pollinators and other wildlife. Many species are in decline and we wish to help them as much as possible. Native plants are thriving alongside our fruit trees, berry shrubs, herbs, flowers and vegetables. You can follow the winding paths through our developing young woodland and hopefully encounter some beautiful creatures.
You are most welcome to our Open Garden Weekend!
DATE: Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th of July 2019
TIME: Noon to 5pm
PLACE: Barnaboy, Ballaghaderreen, F45WR86
Stroll through our wildlife friendly garden, peek inside our eco-buildings and enjoy some refreshments in our pop up Amnestea café. The weekend is in aid of Amnesty International Ireland and all proceeds will go towards their work.
Pick your own berries. A small number of potted up bee friendly herbs and plants will be available for a donation.
In our extension and conservatory you can get a close up look at our mosaics, glass-bottle walls and plantings.
You will also find living willow structures, ponds full of wildlife, native and non-native flowers, shrubs, all the native trees of Ireland, a wooden round pergola, tree-house and many perennial and annual vegetables.
We have limited parking space available. Please car-pool if you can.
Admission is by donation at your own discretion. Children are welcome but please be advised that the garden contains a stream, deep water ponds, loose stone walls and some inedible plants. Young children will need constant supervision. Wheel chair access is unfortunately limited. The garden is on different levels and paths are grass and gravel.
We hope to see you over the weekend! These are a few photos from previous years.
Obviously I can’t attend the open garden, but I’ve enjoyed seeing all the photos. It’s sure to be a wonderful day.

Thank you; but I have bee off of the West Coast only once, and only as far as Oklahoma. I don’t get out much.
